Privacy Policy
Last Updated: August 23, 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how WeavingGem (“we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, and protects information when you use the WeavingGem mobile app (iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch), visit weavinggem.com, or contact us for support.
We built WeavingGem as a local-first loom companion. Your weaving drafts and session progress stay on your device. We do not run ads, we do not sell your personal information, and we do not share your data with third parties for their own marketing.
1. Summary
- Your WIF files and progress are stored on your device. We do not upload draft content to our servers.
- No account required in the app — we do not ask for your name or email inside WeavingGem.
- We do not sell personal information and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
- Limited analytics help us fix bugs and improve the app (PostHog). Purchases are handled by Apple.
- Optional Voice Control uses the microphone and on-device speech recognition only while you turn it on. Nothing you say is recorded or sent to us.
- You have privacy rights depending on where you live — see Section 9.
2. Information We Collect
In the app (WeavingGem)
When you use the app, we may collect:
- Usage and product interaction data — for example, that a WIF was imported, a threading or weaving session started or completed, settings changed, or the draft preview was opened. Events include app version and general device type. We do not send draft file contents, pattern names from your library, or color choices in these events.
- Diagnostics data — crash reports, stack traces, and handled errors (for example, a failed WIF import) via PostHog Error Tracking and Apple’s crash reporting when you opt in on your device. Used only to fix bugs.
- Session replay (diagnostics) — on some builds we record anonymized screenshots of in-app screens to understand UX issues. Replays may show UI labels and layout; we do not intentionally capture draft file contents you import. Replays are used for debugging, not advertising.
- Anonymous identifier — PostHog assigns a random
distinct_idon your device. We do not tie it to your name, email, or Apple ID in the app. - Voice Control (optional) — if you enable Voice Control in Session settings, the app asks for microphone and speech-recognition permission so it can listen for short commands such as “next” and “back” during a threading or weaving session. Speech recognition runs entirely on your device. We do not record your voice, store audio, or send transcripts to WeavingGem or PostHog. Core threading and weaving work if you deny permission or leave Voice Control off. Listening pauses when you leave a session or open a sheet that covers it.
We do not collect advertising identifiers (IDFA), precise location, contacts, photos, or health data through the app. We do not upload microphone audio or speech transcripts from Voice Control.
Purchases (WeavingGem Pro)
In-app purchases are processed entirely by Apple. We receive purchase confirmation from Apple to unlock features on your device. We do not receive or store your payment card details.
On this website
- Newsletter / updates signup — if you submit your email on our site, we collect that address. MailerLite processes it so we can send product updates. You can unsubscribe from any email.
- Website analytics and cookies — optional analytics cookies (Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity) load only if you choose Allow all or enable Analytics in Cookie settings on our site. You can change your choice anytime from the footer link. Strictly necessary cookies remember your consent preference. These tools may collect IP address, browser type, device type, pages viewed, and general region. See their policies: Google, Microsoft.
- Support email — if you email weavinggem@gmail.com, we receive whatever you choose to send (device model, app version, description of the issue, etc.).
TestFlight
If you join a TestFlight build, Apple may share your email address and crash data with us as part of Apple’s testing program.
3. How We Use Information
We use the information above to:
- Operate, maintain, and improve WeavingGem
- Understand which features are used and fix crashes or import errors
- Provide optional Voice Control when you enable it (on-device command recognition only)
- Respond to support requests
- Send product updates you signed up for (website email only)
- Comply with legal obligations
We do not use your information to build advertising profiles or to make automated decisions that affect your legal rights.
4. We Do Not Sell or Share for Advertising
We do not sell your personal information. We do not share personal information with third parties for cross-context behavioral advertising, and we do not use the App Tracking Transparency framework because we do not track you across other companies’ apps or websites for ads.
We share data only with service providers who help us run the app or website (listed below), under contracts that limit their use to providing services to us — not for their own marketing.
5. Third-Party Service Providers
- PostHog (US) — in-app analytics, session replay, and error tracking in the WeavingGem mobile app only (not used on weavinggem.com). PostHog Privacy Policy
- Apple — App Store, TestFlight, in-app purchases, and optional device crash reports. Apple Privacy Policy
- MailerLite — email list for website signups. MailerLite Privacy Policy
- Google Analytics — website usage statistics. Google Privacy Policy
- Microsoft Clarity — website session analytics. Microsoft Privacy Statement
- Cloudflare — hosts this website (Pages). Cloudflare Privacy Policy
6. Your Weaving Data (Local Storage)
WIF files you import, color overrides, threading/weaving progress, and library settings are stored locally on your device (and may sync to your paired Apple Watch through Apple’s WatchConnectivity while a session is active). We do not upload your drafts to WeavingGem servers.
If you use Save or Save as…, files are written only to locations you choose on your device or in iCloud Drive / Files — under your control.
Deleting the app removes local app data from that device unless you have exported copies elsewhere.
7. Data Retention
- On your device — until you delete the app or remove patterns.
- Analytics and diagnostics (PostHog, in-app) — retained according to our PostHog project settings, typically on the order of months, for product improvement and bug fixing in the mobile app.
- Support emails — kept as long as needed to resolve your request and maintain a reasonable support history.
- Newsletter — until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete your address.
- Website analytics — per Google and Microsoft retention settings in our accounts.
8. International Transfers
We are based in Canada. PostHog and some other providers process data in the United States. Where required by law, we rely on appropriate safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses offered by vendors) for transfers from the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, or other regions with data-transfer rules.
9. Your Privacy Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or export personal information we hold about you, and to object to or restrict certain processing. You may also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.
European Economic Area & United Kingdom (GDPR / UK GDPR)
Our lawful bases include: legitimate interests (in-app analytics and crash fixing — balanced against your privacy); contract (delivering purchases through Apple); and consent (newsletter signup and optional website analytics via Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity). To exercise rights, email us. Because the app does not use accounts, include your device type and app version so we can help locate analytics tied to your request where possible.
California (CCPA / CPRA)
We do not sell personal information and do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. California residents may request disclosure of categories collected, deletion, or correction. We will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights. Submit requests to weavinggem@gmail.com.
Canada (PIPEDA and provincial laws)
You may request access to personal information we hold about you and ask us to correct inaccuracies. Contact us at the email below. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
How to contact us about privacy
Email weavinggem@gmail.com with the subject line “Privacy request.” We will respond within a reasonable time (generally within 30 days where law requires).
10. Children’s Privacy
WeavingGem is not directed at children under 13 (or 16 in some jurisdictions). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
11. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information we process. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. Because your drafts stay on your device, keep your device passcode and backups under your control.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the new version on this page and update the “Last Updated” date. Continued use of the app or website after changes means you accept the updated policy.
