How do I import a WIF draft into my library?
If you already have a draft or pattern saved as a .wif file, you can open it in WeavingGem and keep your place while you warp, thread, and weave. New to the format? See what a WIF file is.
Many weavers bring files from Fiberworks, Bower, or a pattern library. You can also start a draft in the app with Create Draft if you do not have a WIF yet. This guide is for opening a file you already have.
- On the home screen, tap Open WIF File, then choose the file from Files, iCloud Drive, Mail, or AirDrop.
- Or tap a .wif attachment in Mail or Files and choose WeavingGem when asked which app should open it.
- When the draft appears in your library, open it and check colours and loom setup before you begin at the loom.
WeavingGem works with drafts from four through sixteen shafts.
On the free version you can import two of your own WIF files. Sample patterns in the library do not count toward that limit. Duplicating a pattern uses one of your two Create Draft openings, not an import. A third import opens the WeavingGem Pro sheet. See free vs Pro.
Tip
Yarn colours in a WIF are often placeholders. Before you start, open Details and Colors and match them to the yarn in your stash. Need to tweak the sequence or fix a shaft lift? Tap Edit pattern to paint changes directly on the draft canvas before you start dressing the loom.
